U14's v Morriston Away Sun 6th November 2016

Overpowered and outplayed

On a chilly dry morning only the strong cross wind was likely to affect conditions. Gowerton had the advantage of the wind first half but it was Morriston who scored first with their speedy left winger picking the ball up deep in his own 22 and making a maizy run across field, breaking several tackles before finding some free space to outpace our final line of defence to go under the posts after just 5 mins.  We fought back well after the early setback and managed to put a few decent moves together but it took us until the 20th minute to register our first points with a penalty by outside half Louis Davies.  Then on the stroke of half time we were deep in Morriston's 22 and a move went wide from a ruck and saw No. 8 Cameron Jones break a few tackles to go in near the posts which Louis converted and saw us lead 10-7 at half time. Sadly that was the end of our scoring as Morriston took full advantage of the wind and kept kicking deep into our half and we hardly ever made it out of there for the rest of the game.  Morriston scored four converted tries within the first 20 minutes of the second half to lead 35-10 and put the game to bed.  The game finished a few minutes premature following a head injury to fullback Steff Richards.  Hopefully the injuries sustained by 2 or 3 of the boys aren't too serious and all will be available to play next week down in Bynea where the boys will no doubt want to put this result right.
