U15's v Llandeilo - Conditions dictate style of play

Despite the dry weather, the preceeding day's rain made conditions very heavy under foot and not condusive to a fast free flowing game.  From the first few minutes it was clear that the opposition intended to keep things tight, and to their credit managed to offload the ball superbly in the tackle area to keep the moves flowing.  This was proving difficult for our boys to defend at times however we managed to keep them at bay whilst trying to play some rugby ourselves.  On 9 minutes, a line out inside our 22 so Llandeilo spin the ball out to their inside centre who managed to side step a couple of defenders to go in unopposed under the posts for an impressive individual try in the conditions.  The conversion was successful 7-0.  There wasn't a lot of flare in the game thanks to the muddy pitch and the half continued with both teams trying to play but ultimately the moves coming to an end by a handling error or two.  Sadly outside half Alex Hughes took a stray boot to the mouth and went off to be seen too and replaced by Brandon Jones.  Eventually with 5 minutes to go to half time, we managed to gain a penalty deep in their half and took a quick one and the ball was kicked across field where centre Gregor Devine was at hand to gather the loose ball and crash his way over for a try.  Brandon Jones kicked the conversion, 7-7.  Nothing further of note happened in the remaining few minutes of the half.

The second half started well for us and we were on the attack from the off.  We kicked the ball deep into their half as often as we could to gain territory and hoped to get possession back.  On 5 minutes, a clean break by flanker Sam Terry nearly saw him score in the far corner but was brought down some 10 meters short.  From the resulting ruck the ball was moved out and a try was nearly scored under the posts.  This time from the ruck the ball came to Brandon who passed to fullback Steff Richards who then a couple of meters out passed to No. 8 Cameron Jones who made sure of the try in the corner.  Brandon kicked the difficult conversion to make it 7-14.  Llandeilo kept pressing but didn't look as threatening when the ball was passed out through their back line.  On 20 minutes, a move inside our 22 saw Llandeilo's centres fumble the ball which enabled fullback Steff Richards to fly hack the ball up field.  Steff and the opposing fullback ended up in a foot race for the ball, and Steff managed to beat him to fly hack the ball once more down deep into their 22.  Unfortuneatly the third fly hack through saw the ball stick in the mud and Llandeilo's defence eventually got back to snuff out any chance of a try.  There were no further scores in the second half and the game ended 7-14 to Gowerton.  A good win against a tough side in difficult conditions and who had taken some decent scalps before Christmas. The win keeps the momentum going towards the Ospreys Cup semi final.
