U14's v Llandeilo - Keep the best until last!

On a sunny, mild Sunday morning in late April, we travelled to Llandeilo for our last game of the season with a depleted squad of 17 players faced a team who were unbeaten this season.  Playing in our away 'Butlins' colours the boys must have felt like being on tour and were all keen on putting a performance to close the season off and they didn't disappoint.  Early moments of the game saw us look to run the ball and some slick passing and creative kicking saw us dominate the opening part of the game.  On 8 minutes we crossed for our first try by skipper Troy Davies who finished off a well worked move to score midway between the posts and the corner flag.  The conversion was missed by Louis Davies.  Four minutes later we crossed for our second when busy centre Adam Price barged his way over from close range.  Louis Davies converted from near the posts.  The boys were playing some fantastic rugby, the rucking and offloading were superb and the handling skills excellent.  Not long after the restart Troy Davies went over for his second of the game and Louis Davies'  conversion made it 19-0 after 15 minutes.  Llandeilo looked a bit shell shocked and probably weren't expecting us to play as well as this.  They did start to gain possession and territory and at times looked dangerous but our defence held firm every time and the half time whistle came with the score a 19-0.

The second half saw more of the same from us with backs and forwards combining well to put some lovely moves together and only Llandeilo's defence was stopping this game turning into a rout.  On 11 minutes a long pass from one of the Llandeilo backs was intercepted by speedy winger Ieuan Sleeman who ran 60 meters to score unopposed.  The conversion from far out was missed, 24-0. Llandeilo didn't throw the towel in and after 18 minutes got just rewards for their persistance with a well worked try which came from numerous phases close to our line and the number 8 crashing over from short range.  The conversion was good and the score was now 24-7.  The last 10 minutes of play saw both teams throw the ball around Barbarian style and the final score of the game came on the final whistle when the ball went along the line to winger Ieuan Sleeman who crossed in the corner for his second and our fifth try.  The conversion was missed and the ref blew for full time. Gowerton 29-7 winners and inflicted Llandeilo's first defeat of the season in probably the best all round team performance we've had all year.
